Best Practice Guidelines for handling and release of bycatch species in tuna purse seiners

This guide presents the best safe handling and release methods to maximize the survival of bycatch species accidentally captured in purse seine fisheries, while placing crew safety first. Many of the new release devices shown are the result of collaborations between fishers and scientists. The guidelines will be revised in the future as new solutions are developed to either avoid bycatch or facilitate a more efficient release of bycatch species.
